Greetings!
We are excited to share some upcoming events with everyone who is interested in participating in the Zane Trace Band Program. Mrs. Smith and I have been talking to the 4th grade classes about band and the different instruments they have the opportunity to learn if they would like to sign-up for band.
Permission Slip to sign up for 5th-8th Grade Band. Please turn in to BJ Tripp or Mrs. Waller by Friday, March 27th.

We will have Instrument Fittings during the school day on Wednesday, March 25th. The 4th grade classes have been scheduled for a time to play a few instruments and choose the instrument that is the best fit for them. If anyone in 5th-11th grade would like to join band, please fill out the permission slip, turn it in to BJ tripp or Mrs. Waller, and sign up for an instrument fitting in the Instrument Fitting Google Form: https://forms.gle/vo7Dtjk6pLZuoxV27
Not sure which instrument you want to try during the fitting? You can hear what they sound like on this interactive PDF:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Lb4FK2eS8B2UFez4TceSJOGCvAuNZURX/view?usp=sharing
Zane Trace High School students who are interested in participating in band should email Mrs. Waller and make sure you add band to your high school schedule with Mrs. Depugh. We have additional band options for high school band students (Jazz Band, Chamber Ensemble, and Honor Band).
We will have a Beginning Band and New Member Parent Meeting on Tuesday, March 31st in the ZT Cafeteria at 6pm. This is the best time to talk about what band will be like and hear about how to set up an instrument rental through Music and Arts for the fall of 2026. As mentioned in the permission slip, it is recommended and not mandatory to set up a rental with Music and Arts. Please talk to Mrs. Waller before taking a different route.
Students that participate in Pickaway-Ross, CCP, FFA, theatre, eSports, and athletics are always welcome to participate! We work hard to schedule events while keeping possible conflicts in mind. We care about providing ZT students with opportunities to participate in a variety of activities to better the community, support their interests, and help them reach their potential.
Here are a couple of videos that I like that break down the different instrument options and how playing instruments is one of the best activities you can do for your brain.

In 5th and 6th Grade, we usually have 2 concerts a year. We usually have a concert in early December and a concert in late April. There are opportunities to perform in the Ross Regional Beginning Honor Band and Ross County Summer Youth Band (performs at the Ross County Fair).
In 7th and 8th Grade, we usually have 3 concerts a year. We also begin participating in Ohio Music Education Adjudicated Events, such as Large Group in March and Solo and Ensemble in April. Students also have opportunities to participate in about 3 honor bands, as well as Ross County Summer Youth Band (performs at the Ross County Fair). Students are allowed to participate in the Marching Band.
In 9th-12th Grade, we usually have 3 concerts a year. We continue to participate in Ohio Music Education Adjudicated Events. High School Solo and Ensemble in January or February and Large Group in March. Students have even more opportunities to participate in a variety of collegiate Honor Bands, OMEA All-State Band, Ross County Honor Band, and OMEA District 16 Honor Band. The Zane Trace Marching Band performs at most local parades, band festivals, ZT Football Games, ZT home basketball games, and usually performs in Florida, Cedar Point, and Kings Island every four years or so.
Throughout 5th-12th grade band, we hope that students learn skills that they can use for the rest of their lives, transfer those skills to other forms of music performances, participate in community bands, and hopefully pass on to future generations. Zane Trace Band Alumni have gone on to participate in collegiate marching bands and have performed all over the world.
It’s never too late to get started, but it is easier the earlier you begin.
Please don't hesitate to contact Mrs. Waller anytime with any questions! Thank you!
Kate Waller

The band has been working very hard to prepare for this event and made a lot of progress individually and as a group in the last couple of weeks!
Way to go, Pioneers! We are very proud of you! Thank you for all of the time you put in practicing on your own, practicing after school, and working together!
Thank you to the parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and community for showing up for these students and helping them get to and from practices and performances. These experiences wouldn't be possible without your support!
