Congratulations to the 7th and 8th Grade Junior High Concert Band members who performed this morning at the Ohio Music Education Association's Junior High Solo and Ensemble Adjudicated Events held at Chillicothe Middle School.
Landon Geisel received a Superior Rating on his clarinet solo performance.
The Woodwind Choir received an Excellent Rating on their ensemble performance. Members included: Addison Borland, Carly Mead, Landon Geisel, Maci Canterbury, Olivia George, Phoebe Jarrell, and Westley McCorkle.
Our first-ever Low Brass Choir received an Excellent Rating on their ensemble performance. Members included: Jaxon Woods, Dylan Carroll, and Slade Williams.
The Percussion Quartet participated in a Festival Performance of their piece. Members included: Oliver Colopy, Winter Kuntz, Carleigh Tackett, and Carly Mead.
Every member of the Junior High Concert Band has been preparing for these performances for a few months. It takes a lot of energy, focus, perseverance, and courage to perform for adjudication. The goal is to gain experience in performances like these and to grow as musicians by working together and receiving valuable feedback from adjudicators. Solo and Ensemble offers a unique opportunity for students to take ownership of their music, decide how to practice, and then perform without a director. Mrs. Waller is involved in assisting as much as needed with learning the notes, rhythms, and style, and offers guidance on how to practice or where to make adjustments, but the credit truly goes to the students. They are tasked with staying together as a group without someone showing them a beat pattern or immediately telling them when they may be off by a beat or part of a beat. They did a wonderful job preparing their pieces for today's performances!
Thank you, students, for all your hard work. Thank you, parents, for supporting experiences like this.
We are very proud of the effort you put in and how well you represented Zane Trace today!

We will have a Beginning Band and New Member Parent Meeting on Tuesday, March 31st in the ZT Cafeteria at 6pm. This is the best time to talk about what band will be like and hear about how to set up an instrument rental through Music and Arts for the fall of 2026.
Students that participate in Pickaway-Ross, CCP, FFA, theatre, eSports, and athletics are always welcome to participate! We work hard to schedule events while keeping possible conflicts in mind. We care about providing ZT students with opportunities to participate in a variety of activities to better the community, support their interests, and help them reach their potential.
In 5th and 6th Grade, we usually have 2 concerts a year. We usually have a concert in early December and a concert in late April. There are opportunities to perform in the Ross Regional Beginning Honor Band and Ross County Summer Youth Band (performs at the Ross County Fair).
In 7th and 8th Grade, we usually have 3 concerts a year. We also begin participating in Ohio Music Education Adjudicated Events, such as Large Group in March and Solo and Ensemble in April. Students also have opportunities to participate in about 3 honor bands, as well as Ross County Summer Youth Band (performs at the Ross County Fair). Students are allowed to participate in the Marching Band.
In 9th-12th Grade, we usually have 3 concerts a year. We continue to participate in Ohio Music Education Adjudicated Events. High School Solo and Ensemble in January or February and Large Group in March. Students have even more opportunities to participate in a variety of collegiate Honor Bands, OMEA All-State Band, Ross County Honor Band, and OMEA District 16 Honor Band. The Zane Trace Marching Band performs at most local parades, band festivals, ZT Football Games, ZT home basketball games, and usually performs in Florida, Cedar Point, and Kings Island every four years or so.
Throughout 5th-12th grade band, we hope that students learn skills that they can use for the rest of their lives, transfer those skills to other forms of music performances, participate in community bands, and hopefully pass on to future generations. Zane Trace Band Alumni have gone on to participate in collegiate marching bands and have performed all over the world.
It’s never too late to get started, but it is easier the earlier you begin.
Please don't hesitate to contact Mrs. Waller anytime with any questions! Thank you!
