Healthy Habits

This is the time of the year for stomach bugs, and all of their friends to gang up on us. With that in mind, please remember to have your children wash their hands frequently, cover their mouths when coughing, and noses when sneezing. During the winter season, a good night’s rest, plenty of fluids, and a good multi-vitamin are extremely helpful in preventing an illness that is just waiting to attack us and our little ones.

Make sure your child eats a good breakfast each day before school. The bus ride can be very hard on an empty stomach, causing nausea and vomiting. Each day, breakfast is served at school from 8:00-8:15 if there is not time at home.

Campbell’s Soup Labels, Box Tops for Education and Kroger Community Awards

We are still collecting Campbell’s Soup Labels and Box Tops for Education. Please send those to school with your child. Also, if you are a Kroger shopper and have not enrolled in the Kroger Community Awards program, I encourage you to do so. Kroger will make a donation of a percentage of what you purchase to our school. If you would like to register, please go to www.krogercommunityrewards.com to register. To assist you in registering, please visit zanetrace.org and find the Kroger Community Rewards link under the Elementary School tab for instructions.

A Note From the Principal

I would like to share a poem with you that exemplifies a positive approach to everyday living. The poem is titled ‘Life is Precious and So Are You’.

Your life is what YOU make it, based on the attitude you choose.
The way YOU deal with EVERY day, tells if you win or lose.
To win you must be thoughtful, and love all that YOU ARE.
Appreciate YOUR talents, shoot for YOUR shining star.

Eat well, sleep sound, and exercise, begin each day with prayer.
Set YOUR course by setting goals, take risks and learn to care.
Smile, love, give lots of hugs, respect the human race.
Don’t criticize, complain, or whine, maintain a growing pace.

Words like ‘wish’ and ‘should’ and ‘can’t’ must NEVER cross your tongue.
Go for the gold-stretch and try, leave no song unsung.
For life’s too short to waste a day, or live without a plan.
So THINK and DREAM, don’t give up, and ALWAYS say ‘I CAN!’

Parent Pick-Up Reminder

First of all, thank you to all of you who regularly sign your children out, wait in the area outside the office and leave the building promptly with child in hand. You help make this system run as smoothly as possible, however, some are not signing students out, walking to areas of the building other than the assigned waiting area, lingering around the building after picking up your child and arriving after dismissal time to pick your child up. Many schools restrict parents from the building and simply send students out the door at the end of the day. I do not want to get to the point of doing this as I see this system as unsafe and I want parents to feel comfortable coming to our wonderful school. I know it is crowded and can be somewhat crazy in the hallway, but in a very short time, everything clears out and we have the peace of mind to know that children are safely with their parent. This system works for us for the masses, let’s not let the actions of a few ruin the convenience and peace of mind for the rest. Please assist us in making this the best situation possible. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.
